WMC is pleased to announce the availability of our API RP 1173 services. Launched in the summer of 2015 by the American Petroleum Institute (API), RP 1173 represents the latest North American guidance on Pipeline Safety Management systems – you can find the RP on the API website. Recognizing WMC’s expertise in the implementation of Management Frameworks and Process Safety Systems, API and the Association of Oil Pipelines (AOPL) engaged WMC to produce an introductory guide to the implementation of a pipeline safety management system. The guide is due to be published during Q2 2016 and can be found with other API RP 1173 publications on the PipelineSMS.org website.
WMC has leveraged its experience in the implementation of safety management frameworks and systems with our in-depth knowledge of the new RP, to develop a API RP 1173 assessment and implementation service. Our assessment goes beyond traditional tools that provide simple checks on summary requirements being met, to cover the behavioural and organizational culture aspects that are essential for a successful implementation. The end result is a report that contrasts an Operator’s current state with the requirements of RP 1173 and identifies gaps, maturity and the relative strengths of the PDCA cycle across all ten elements of the RP. At a Client’s request, this output can be converted into an implementation roadmap to drive continuous improvement of the Client’s solution; a program of work that can be delivered by the Client, by another vendor, or by WMC’s own expert team.
