As a Director and Management Consultant with WMC’s BC team, John Neelin brings 15 years’ experience to his practice as a trusted advisor to executive teams on HR Strategy & Services, Change Management, and Organizational Development. He takes a highly customized approach to his services, and he is a champion for business agility and technological innovation in operations and organizational performance.

John’s credentials include certifications in Human Resources (CPHR, SHRM-SCP), Change Management (Prosci CP), and Agile Leadership (SAFe 5 Agilist), with degrees in Business (BCom, University of Alberta) and the Arts (MFA, California Institute of the Arts). He applies his study of business analysis (BA Professional Certificate, MacEwan University) consistently in his practice, and continues to develop his expertise in HR metrics, people analytics, and digital HR through AIHR (Academy to Innovate Human Resources, Rotterdam, NL).

John’s unique career path in business, education, and the arts has taken him to four countries and across three continents. His former academic appointments at University of Saskatchewan (Canada), Anglia Ruskin University (United Kingdom), and Ara Institute of Canterbury (New Zealand), serve to bring a creative and interdisciplinary perspective to his practice.

HR STRATEGY & SERVICES

John has designed and implemented HR functions for up to 12 companies, from start-ups to organizations with over 300 employees, within both Canadian and U.S. business portfolios. Past project deliverables include employer risk and compliance assessments; workforce planning strategies; compensation redesign; policy and compliance development; workplace investigations; talent acquisition strategies; and total rewards frameworks for provincial, statewide, and U.S.-Canadian cross-border operations. In a previous role, John led a staff of 40 client service professionals providing HR, payroll, and benefits solutions to thousands of clients across industries.

CHANGE MANAGEMENT & ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

John has managed the change and developed integrated processes for numerous HCM, HRIS, CRM, and ERP implementations and integrations, where impactful communications, training, and resistance management are critical. His change leadership has also been instrumental in the success of corporate rebranding campaigns, compensation restructuring projects, and board administered leadership appointments. Significant projects include an 18-month organizational design for 26 departments, featuring divisional restructuring, position profiling, job architecture, and succession planning.

OPERATIONS & PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT

John’s interdisciplinary approach to building high performing teams draws upon his operations experience as well as his expertise in business agility; coaching and training; and adult learning. He has used data-driven techniques to develop performance management programs; deliver HR reporting and metrics; build cross-functional teams; improve staff retention; and to conduct province-wide performance audits.
