On behalf of our client, the Tsleil-Waututh Nation (TWN), Western Management Consultants (WMC) is seeking a values-driven and people-focused leader for the position of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). This is an exciting opportunity for a committed individual to lead the advancement of a First Nations community that is a leader in socio-economic development and environmental stewardship.

TWN is a distinct and growing Coast Salish community in North Vancouver, BC.  Knowledge of the lands and waters of Tsleil-Waututh territory continues to shape this community while the knowledge of TWN’s ancestors is drawn upon to remedy past wrongs, reclaim TWN territory and traditions and advance TWN into a bright future.  TWN now runs multiple successful businesses, which generate own source revenues, build its capacity for economic growth, provide employment opportunities for their people, and create wealth for current and future generations.  TWN delivers programs for community members including education, health and wellness, child and family development, training and employment, support for youth, families and elders.  Together, TWN is rebuilding their culture and environment so that future generations can thrive as their ancestors have before them.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The CAO will partner with Chief, Council and Community Members to build and deliver upon a shared vision and realize over-arching community goals.  The CAO will be responsible for both strategic planning and daily operations, providing executive leadership and mentoring to a highly dedicated team of professionals.  The CAO will ensure that the Nation complies with relevant legislation, organizational strategies, policies and procedures while meeting community-driven needs and ensuring Council’s decision are implemented in a timely manner.  Open communication with all stakeholders will be critical in order to build upon TWN’s reputation, maintain its values and promote social and economic opportunities throughout the community.

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will bring strong post-secondary academic credentials with a minimum of 7 years senior leadership experience, preferably in band management or at a Tribal Council.  We are looking for someone with a history of creating positive change, who is a servant-leader and who brings strong business and financial acumen. An understanding of First Nations history, culture and of socio-economic determinants are essential as is knowledge of relevant government policies, programs and applicable legislation.
