Chief Librarian – Surrey Libraries

WMC is excited to partner with Surrey Libraries in the search for their next Chief Librarian.

Serving a vibrant and growing community of more than 700,000 residents, Surrey Libraries is one of Canada’s most dynamic systems, with 10 branches, mobile services, and a thriving online presence. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of public library services in one of the country’s fastest-growing cities.

Reporting directly to the Library Board and serving on the City of Surrey’s executive team, the Chief Librarian will provide strategic leadership across programs, services, and spaces while guiding a team of 300 staff. They will oversee budgets, policies, and sustainable funding while championing recruitment, training, and labour relations. Externally, they will be a visible leader, building strong partnerships with government, funders, and community groups, while ensuring the Library continues to deliver inclusive, innovative, and community-focused services.

The Chief Librarian will play a vital role in shaping the future of Surrey, ensuring the library remains a place where community thrives, knowledge is shared, and opportunities are created for all.
